Why do you need a NIBA Broker?

Whether it's business, life, home or motor insurance, NIBA brokers provide advice and assistance to make sure you are properly protected.

Professionalism is a central plank in NIBA's development strategy for its members.

There are many reasons why its pays to deal with a broker from a NIBA member firm:
  1. NIBA member firms are subject to strict screening before being admitted as members. They also agree to enforceable codes of conduct and practice, and subscribe to an external complaints facility.
  2. NIBA member firms employ Qualified Practising Insurance Brokers (QPIBs) who underatake continuing professional education. This ensures they are up to date with industry trends and changes so they can provide you, the insurance buyer, with quality advice.
  3. All brokers are required to participate in a Government-approved consumer complaints-handling scheme. NIBA brokers must also comply with the Insurance Brokers Code of Practice, which sets standards of customer care that must be complied with. The Code requires clear and prompt communication with the client, proper representation when arranging policies and providing support in the event of a claim
  4. NIBA members and their staff are further bound by NIBA's strict Code of Conduct.
  5. NIBA Brokers have access to lots of different policies because they deal with a wide range of insurance companies and sometimes other types of underwriters as well. A NIBA Broker will be aware of the benefits, exclusions and costs of competing policies on the market. They will also help arrange and place the cover and can often provide advice on how to make the most of your insurance budget.

About NIBA

The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) is widely recognised as one of the most effective trade associations operating in the financial services sector. As the peak professional body for insurance intermediaries, NIBA represents insurance brokerages, authorised representatives and underwriting agencies and wholesale brokerages licensed to operate in the life and general insurance sectors.

Currently there are around 500 NIBA member firms operating from around 780 locations nationwide. Members benefit from access to lobbying, marketing, education, technical and information services and regularly participate in industry discussions and research activities. NIBA member firms actively help promote and pursue the NIBA mission in all parts of the insurance and risk community and provide energy, support, ideas and inspiration to the association.

NIBA also runs the NIBA College of Insurance and Risk Professionals which offers varying levels of professional memberships to individual practitioners. It is also the primary education and training body for the sector. The College has around 2,500 practitioner members that have attained the designation Qualified Practising Insurance Broker (QPIB) - recognised as the industry standard for fully competent brokers. All NIBA broker member firms are managed by a practitioner who has reached QPIB status as a minimum.

NIBA member firms are subject to strict screening before being admitted as members. Once admitted each member firm is bound by the NIBA Code of Conduct; subscribes to an external complaints facility; and commits to implementing the Insurance Broking Code of Practice.
